Tips and Tricks to Send Large Email Attachments

Do you wish to send your project to your classmate - so how will you do it in the middle of the night? Do you log in to your email account, create a new mail, attach the Word document and send it? You can send stuff over email, but what if your classmate does not get it?

Where is the document? Where did it go? Why did your classmate not receive it?

Now, when email was invented, it was intended to transfer text messages. Back then, Word documents, GIFs, PDFs, etc. did not exist. Now, when you attach certain files, they get converted to plain text and then reconverted when the receiver gets them. But, most email clients have an attachment size limit. Even if you are able to send the file, the recipient may get it ages later.
Emailing large files over e-mail may not be a good idea.

Alternatives to sending large files over email

You can burn the attachment to a compact disk, post it and pray it gets delivered on time. However, it may get lost or damaged during shipment. And what if the file needs to be sent urgently? What if you have to meet a stringent deadline?

Do not worry- there are several ways through which you can send huge attachments easily without having to spend a single penny.

Hightail

Hightail is a website which allows you to send big attachments. You can sign up for free and share large files. You can also buy a plan if you need to send large files often. Simply sign up or get their Pro plan. Compose a message, just like you would in your email client. Add the file and wait for it to upload. Send it to the recipient. The recipient will get an email which will contain a link. They can go to that link and download the file.

Tips for sending large files

Last but not least, here are a couple of relevant tips and tricks for sending large files over email.

If you want to send a file to a co-worker, then you do not have to upload the file. You can just copy the link of the file location on the organization's drive. Besides, you can share and collaborate on files together. If you are a student, then you can use Google Docs to share the file with your classmate. This way, you can simultaneously work on the school project.

Do you want to send an image to anyone over email? Instead of attaching it to the mail, just use any image hosting website like Flickr or Snapfish. Upload the picture and share the link with your friend.

Do you want to send a home movie to your cousin? Upload it to YouTube, and set it to private. Send the link to your cousin. They will not have to download the file. They can view it on YouTube as and when they please.

Compressing pictures before sending over email

If you have no other option but to send images over email, then just compress them. Various image compression tools are available over the internet. You can also use Microsoft Image Resizer, and it is a freeware. Resize the image and reduce its weight. This way, you will not only be able to email the picture easily, but you will also free up your system memory.
